Good morning! Thanks to so many of you for sending checks or paypaling donations for the Holy Name community. Still waiting on a few checks but my calculations estimate there is a little over $380 so far!
I called down to the church this week and chatted with the parish secretary. She said they were working on the room and were about 30 days out from being ready to install a washer and dryer. The room they are using is not wired for anything plus the roof has been a leaking mess and they are getting mildewed carpet pulled up. She says it's slow work but it's coming along:)
A few people have asked why I don't look on Craiglist for a set to save money. Excellent idea! I am looking and hope I can get a set much cheaper than buying one, even at the discount I found. Truth is, I am wary of purchasing a used item for someone else. I want to make sure I offer something reliable for them to use for a long time:)
Please spread the word to your Sunday school class, small group. or youth group about the need at Holy Name. Thank you!

Clothing the Naked
Last week I had the privilege of dropping off toiletry donations to Holy Name and had a chance to chat with Fr. Martin. He was so pleased with the donations and also mentioned that he had hoped a clothes closet would be starting soon. The clothes closet would be such a blessing for the parish and the community, which is very poor. He told me there was a need for a washer and dryer to clean and prep the clothes they would be taking in for the new ministry.
I smiled and nodded and thought, what a great cause:)
But then I realized he had a bit of confidence in the two women who had brought all the donations! (A friend from my home school group, Jen, spearheaded the toiletry drive and invited me to help her deliver.)
Isn't it funny how you can't say no to a priest when he puts something like that out there?
I left that day filled to the brim with the spiritual gifts that came from helping the people there and decided I would find a way to get that washer and dryer!
So, here is the part where I ask for money.
I need some money.
The washer and dryer will be used constantly and need to do a high volume of clothing and bedding and other linens. I would like to purchase a top loading, high capacity set like this one:
There is a wonderful retail outlet in my town that has scratch and dent or sets that were in model homes and are very deeply discounted. A set like this will cost approximately $900. (We will be able to use the tax free status to purchase so we save a good bit on tax.)
I will be purchasing the set and having it delivered to the church and would like to do so by the end of April. If you are able to help with a donation, big or small, please donate with the knowledge you are making a considerable difference in a community that desperately needs it. If you prefer to send a check to me, please email me at magdasmom@gmail.com and I will happily send you my address. Otherwise, donations can be made using the Donate button on the right side of this blog. Thank you so much!
